Derby Day is a day for timeless elegance, with classic black and white makes track side at Flemington Racecourse. For Lauren’s Derby Day outfit, we created a pant set look and are excited to share the details here.
Pattern: Butterick 7028
Butterick 7028 is a semi-fitted, lined vest top that has princess seams, a button front opening with placket and a matching belt. It is paired with a wide leg trousers that have an invisible zipper.
We followed the pattern for this make including the lining and just changed the position on the zipper to the back for ease of construction.
Fabric: Spotlight Cotton Tweed
We picked up the cotton black and white tweed from the Spotlight clearance table for around $8 per meter. It was perfect for our Derby Day criteria, a natural fibre in black and white. when the Butterick vest set came out we knew we had the perfect pairing.
We sent the fabric to Buttonmania to work their magic to create a self covered belt that the pattern had included and found buttons at Tessuti in Flinders Lane to create a strong line down the center front.
