Art Deco Napier: Day Wear Simplicity 9088

We spent the weekend in Napier for the annual Art Deco Festival — a celebration of the community’s resilience after the 1931 earthquake and the stunning architecture that rose from it. The city’s sleek lines, geometric motifs, and vintage charm made the perfect backdrop for all the fashion inspiration on show. Hosted by the Art Deco Trust, the festival sits within a wider programme of tours, vintage car events, and heritage projects that keep the region’s 1930s stories alive.

We went to a series of events over the weekend but for the day we wanted something that was easiy to wear and explore the car parade and foreshore.  We explored a few patterns but all ended up making our own variations of the same pattern.

Pattern: Simplicity 9088

Simplicity 9088 is a flapper style pattern that features a sleeveless dress that has a V-neck, bust darts and a dropped waist that extends into a flared panel.
