When Fleur from Longan Craft invited us to collaborate and showcase some of their amazing fabric, we knew this was a chance to pick something special! We enjoy creating a new outfit for our birthday and when we saw this stunning purple jacquard, we decided it was perfect for Lauren’s birthday this year. We had seen Vogue 2044 when it arrived on the Sewdirect Australia website and thought this would be the ideal pairing.
Material: Bubble Flower Brocade Fabric
This beautiful bubble flower brocade fabric has a warm ivory background with textured lilac and pink abstract floral pattern. It has slightly whimsical colouring and is designed on a jacquard fabric. The fabric is 160 cm wide and made of polyester.

Tips for working with this fabric: Jacquard fabric fray on cut edges, so use a stay stitching or overlock your seams early in the process to prevent losing material.
Pattern: Vogue 2044
This is a Vogue pattern if we ever did see one. If you have created a range of patterns before you might know what we mean, hand finishing and tricking bias finishes that are a little time consuming but add such lovely detail.
Vogue 2044 is a fit and flare lined dress that is close-fitting through a princess line bust. It has a keyhole front with bias-made bows at the centre front. It has fitted long (or short) sleeves with panelled A A-line skirt with in seam pockets. The dress has a centre back closure.
Modification notes: The waistline on the pattern is slightly raised so Lauren added 3cm in length to all the bodice pieces. To balance this she also recut the waist on the skirt by measuring 1.5 cm above the waist marking on the pattern pieces to form a new cut line.
For the length of the skirt, it was between views A and B.
There are zippers in the sleeve; however in the end Lauren didn’t end up needing to use them to get in and out of the tapered sleeve. So if we create it again we would consider removing these.
The waist belt is added on afterwards; however, to reduce movement, she put this into the waist seam, which worked very well. However, it would have been more even with a stabiliser in the middle to help it clearly match at the centre back.
