For Erin and James’ rehearsal dinner, we wanted to create another special dress as we marked the occasion of their wedding with all of the family. Some might have asked if this was going to be the dress itself but quickly new it didn’t have nearly enough skirt!
Fabric: Silk & Stitch
We have found the wonderful Silk & Stitch, which is designer deadstock wedding dress fabric, and it is a wonderland for anyone looking to create their own wedding dress.
For this, we had chosen the Skylah beaded fabric with a mesh back. We wanted to create a solid colour, so we lined it with crepe back satin from Homecraft Textiles.
Pattern: McCall's 8446
McCall’s 8446 is a Brandi Joan dress design. It is a bias cut style with side rouching, and panelled section with a high slit and cowl neckline.
The construction was a little different as we had the two layers of fabric but overall we kept to the orginal design for this make.
To avoid breaking needles when sewing the beaded fabric, we used a hammer to hit and break the beads along the seam allowances before we started sewing. There were beads all over the lounge room, but is was totally worth it – this beaded fabric is stunning
