Lauren went to the Crown Oak Luncheon as part of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. This is a fun indoor event, so planning for the weather is not a factor. This outfit started with a remnant of lilac-and-cream cotton tweed that we found at The Fabric Store.
This loose weave required so extra support or else it would come undone when we were working with it. Lauren started this project by block fusing the whole piece of fabric with Whispaweft interfacing to give it structure. Then, during construction, it began by overlocking around all of the pieces so that it would not come undone.
Pattern: Butterick 6990
Butterick 6990 us a vintage 1960’s dress. It is a semi-fitted dress with the shaping coming through in the side seams. The feature of the dress is the square corners where the grown-on sleeve meets the bodice.
For this make, we chose to create view A with the stand collar.
Given how delicate the fabric was, it could not be a fitted design we were delighted with this pattern choice.
