Waverley Mills Recycled Wool Craft Pack in Simplicity 1239

Waverley Mills invited us to take on the challenge of creating something with their Craft Packs! We loved this project and enjoyed the creativity of taking on this challenge!

The Craft Packs include 500grams of recycled wool pieces, from blanket ends to pieces. The recycled wool pack we received had three pieces in it. The mix of fabric and size of the pieces varies from pack to pack. For this project, we used one of the three pieces from the Craft Pack, and the help of our furry four legged model!

Fabric: Recycled Wool from Waverley Mills

When we pulled out the pieces from the pack, there were a variety of colours. Two pieces had brown and maroon tone, and this piece, featured a grey background with bold mustard check.

We didn’t realise when we decided to create Fergus a jacket out of it, this piece was actually part of a grid Recycled Wool Pet Blanket – what a perfect match!

The piece wasn’t quite big enough, so we dug into our stash and found a mustard corduroy to combine with the blanket, which also drew out the colour.

Pattern: Simplicity 1239 Dog Jacket

We have started a few jackets for Fergus and have been exploring a few patterns. We like this one because it is all-in-one and can be easily secured with a press stud at his chest and stomach.

We created the jacket by cutting the fabric and quilting it by layering the wool, bamboo batting and poplin lining.  We used the grid lines of the wool as the guide for the stitch lines of the quliting. From there, we tried it on our (wagging and wiggly) model to check the shape and position of the curves and change the curves slightly before binding the edge with corduroy bias.
