We were delighted when Fleur from Longan Craft invited us to collaborate and showcase some of their amazing fabric! We explored the site and fell in love with this beautiful fabric!

Fabric: Daisy Ramie from Longan Craft

This beautiful fabric has an embroidered daisy which provides a dynamic 3D texture to the fabric. The base fabric is made of Ramie (10%) and Cotton (90%). It is 120cm or 47 inches wide.
This fabric comes in seven beautiful colour ways – so there were many options to choose from! We chose the black base fabric with the blue daisy, which allows the yellow flower centre and green leaves to ‘pop’ against the dark background.
At 310 gsm, this fabric is mentioned as being suitable for curtains or upholstery, as well as blouses, shirts, dresses, pants, bags and accessories and other DIY projects. The embroidery does add some structure, however, it was perfect for this structured dress.
Pattern: Butterick 6977

For this project, we chose Butterick 6977. It is a loose-fitting tiered hem dress with a dropped waist bodice, pointed collar, and stand. It has set-in sleeves with a gathered sleeve hem and an elastic hem.
We wanted a dress pattern that would showcase the fabric with the gathered tiers, and we chose the long-sleeved option as we are working on adding to our winter wardrobe.
We swapped out the button finish for press studs because we thought it might be tricky to place button holes in this embroidered fabric or that the button holes wouldn’t wear well if we washed this dress in the washing machine. This also gives a nice smooth placket at the centre front.
