Green Gingham from Minerva

When we spied the Rose & Hubble 100% Cotton Poplin Fabric in apple green and white on the Minerva website we knew we wanted to create ourselves some Two Sewing Sisters “uniforms”. Being a poplin it is a printed cotton fabric that is 112cm wide and light to medium weight.

Erin created a version of Vogue 9237 towards the end of Summer and loved it! She has since created 2 more, taking the count of #v9237 to three including this green gingham version. The dress is a loose-fitting pullover dress that is secured with a keyhole button closure at the centre back. We created the short sleeve version and the main draw card the ruffled hem back panel. For the second garment, we created a three-quarter view of McCall’s 8098. This had come off the back of the full-length pair in the blue polished cotton and we wanted to try out the shorter style. The pants have an elastic waist, flat centre panel and gathered-tier outer layers. For the shorter length, there is a gathered panel all around the bottom. The poplin sat much better in the floaty dress than the pants however they will still get a great lot of wear for our sewing days.

From the gingham scraps, we couldn’t help ourselves but had to use every inch! We made our studio dog Fergus a matching bowtie! He wears it very proudly! We created this with band for the collar (interfaced for stability) with a D ring for his lead and buckle then stitched. We then stitched on the bow and wrapped around a band to form the centre of the bowtie effect.
