Fabric: Minerva Exclusive Harlequin Leaves Crepe Back Satin

This multi-coloured purple design is the Minerva Exclusive Harlequin Leaves Crepe Back Satin POD Fabric.

“POD” stands for “Printed on Demand”, a brilliant approach by Minerva. While it takes a little longer to receive your fabric — because they don’t hold large quantities in stock — it means they only produce what is actually needed by customers. This reduces unnecessary stock and minimises waste, making it a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly way to shop for fabric.

The key features of the Jo pattern include a V-necked bodice that extends into a sculptural “croissant” sleeve — definitely one of the standout elements that drew us to this design. It also has an elasticated casing at the waist, which, while it only slightly pulls in the shape, still requires a zipper for a fitted finish.

You have the choice of a straight skirt or trousers to create a jumpsuit, complete with stylish slanted pockets.

One of the pattern’s most notable techniques is the use of bias-bound seams, described in the pattern notes as innovative. It’s a great method for adding structure and dimension, particularly to support the sleeves. However, it does require careful reading of the instructions — and thankfully, there’s a sew-along video available, which is incredibly helpful.
